Weed Facts That Everyone Should Know

No matter if you’re a first-time user or you’ve been using some form of cannabis for several years, there’s always something new and interesting to learn. While it’s becoming more mainstream, there’s still a lot that’s not known about the plant. There are also countless misconceptions out there. The following are some interesting weed facts that every user should know.

There Are Hundreds of Different Strains

There are over 750 strains of weed. Growers and cultivators are constantly experimenting with growing new hybrids to produce a variety of different effects. They all have varying levels of THC and CBD, as well as different terpene profiles. Having more strains available allows users to find something that provides them with the specific results they’re seeking.

It Has to Be Heated to Activate THC

You can’t just eat raw weed and expect to get high. The THC in raw plants is pretty much non-existent. It occurs after exposing the plant to heat, such as combustion from smoking or the decarboxylation process. It’s precursor, THCa, is what turns into the desired cannabinoid. If you are going to eat your weed, be sure to combine it with a fatty substance (by making cannabutter or cannaoil) for the best results.

You Can’t Overdose (But You Can Take Too Much at Once)

It’s pretty much impossible to overdose on weed. Some sources estimate that you’d have to ingest 40,000 times the normal amount to die from it. Others say you would have to consume 1,500 pounds in 15 minutes.

While overdosing is incredibly unlikely, you can consume too much at once. Getting too high can cause severe anxiety, paranoia, rapid heart rate, nausea, and other side effects. If you wait it out, your symptoms eventually subside. There are a few things you can do to help get you through the process, such as drinking plenty of water, taking some CBD, and sleeping.

Not Everyone Has the Same Experience

Even if you and your friend consume the exact same amount of the same strain of weed, there’s no guarantee that you’ll both have the same experience. Everyone processes it differently. Several factors also come into play as well, such as your weight, your metabolism, and your unique physiology. Even your mindset can play a role. You might feel the effects while your friend doesn’t. Finding your specific dose will help you to find what works best for you.

It’s Not All About THC and CBD

THC and CBD are the two most well-known cannabinoids in weed. While they might be the most popular (and most sought-after), they’re far from the only ones. Cannabis has more than 100 cannabinoids, including CBN, CBG, and CBC. Different strains also contain varying amounts of terpenes, flavonoids, and other compounds. Terpenes give the plants their scent and flavor, but they also play a role in the effects you feel. For instance, linalool, a terpene present in lavender, can help promote relaxation. All of the compounds in cannabis work together to provide you with the desired effects.

Regardless of your experience level, gaining a better understanding of cannabis is always beneficial. As the market grows, there will likely be new information that follows.
