can you hallucinate on weed

Can You Hallucinate on Weed?

Cannabis has many medical and recreational uses. Many use it to treat pain, alleviate anxiety, or relax at the end of the day. While it’s gaining popularity as the market grows and more states legalize it, it’s still a Schedule I federally-controlled substance. Some call it a depressant, while others refer to it as a stimulant. Others still call it a hallucinogen. The question is, however, can you hallucinate on weed?

Is Weed a Hallucinogen?

A hallucinogen is a drug that disrupts the communication between your brain and nerve cells. It causes you to see, hear, and smell things that aren’t really there. Common hallucinogens include PCP, LSD, and ecstasy.

Some say that weed is a hallucinogen. The thing is, it technically isn’t. It’s also not a depressant or a stimulant. It can, however, act as any one of these things. In some cases, it can even act as an antidepressant.

Does It Cause Hallucinations?

While weed isn’t technically a hallucinogen, it can cause you to hallucinate. It’s rare, but it does happen. Any weed-induced hallucinogens generally occur when you ingest too much of the plant and get too much THC in your system at once. Along with an increased heart rate, a distorted perception of time, paranoia, and nausea, you might start to see or feel things that aren’t actually there. Some hear things that aren’t there, too.

So, how do you know that you’re hallucinating? One of the biggest signs is perceiving something that isn’t there. You might hear sounds like buzzing, humming, or hissing. Some people swear they hear voices or music. Visual signs of a hallucination might include seeing colors, shapes, or even images of people that appear real at the time.

Hallucinations caused by weed don’t last long, and they don’t cause any long-lasting effects. At the time, however, they can be incredibly concerning, and they may add more fuel to other effects of too much THC, such as paranoia and anxiety.

How Can You Avoid Hallucinating on Weed?

There are steps that you can take to avoid weed-related hallucinations. One way is to perfect your ideal dose. Start low and gradually increase the amount of cannabis you take until you find the smallest dose that provides you with the desired results. While it might take a while to find your perfect dose, this method does help you to avoid getting too much at once.

Another way to avoid hallucinations when using cannabis is to find a high CBD low THC strain. CBD helps to counteract the effects of THC. Using a strain that has more of the non-psychoactive cannabinoid helps to lessen the effects of the one that does get you high. You might feel a slight buzz, or you might not feel any at all. At the same time, you’ll still get the benefits that the plant has to offer.

Can You Hallucinate On Weed and Does It Wear Off?

Cannabis may cause hallucinations, but they’re rare. You’re more likely to experience them if you take too much and get too much THC in your system. Even so, it’s not the norm, and the effects of too much weed do wear off after a while. With proper dosing, you can reap the benefits of the plant without this uncomfortable and unwanted effect.
